Paleo Cauliflower Chowder
We’ve been eating a lot of soup lately for two reasons: 1) DC is FREEZING and 2) Scott’s had an upset stomach lately that stemmed from what we think was food poisoning. Soups are not only easy to digest but are also healing to the gut, so I’ve basically been making soup every night for dinner. I’m currently working from Whole Foods and it’s even freezing in here. It’s 16 degrees out. My fingers are so cold that I can barely type. I really wish I had some soup right about now. Paleo Cauliflower Chowder This Paleo Cauliflower Chowder is easy to make and so filling, nutritious and satisfying, everyone will be asking for seconds! 4 cups homemade bone broth1 head cauliflower (broken up into small pieces)1 onion (diced)2 carrots (diced)2 celery stalks (diced)1 garlic clove (minced)2 tbsp butter Melt butter over medium high heat and sauté the carrots…

Week In Review
This past weekend was my birthday weekend and Scott surprised me with an overnight stay at The Park Hyatt. We love going to hotels near our house because we can just Uber over quickly and there’s no long drive home. When we got there, they upgraded us to a suite since it was my birthday and offered to bring us a free bottle of wine. SCORE. Hey may look high, but believe it or not, this guy has never smoked a joint in his life. Even though it may look like it here. They bathroom was the size of the first room I ever rented and had a huge tub. LUXURIOUS. Yeah, that’s a bottle of Serenity for my bath. So, so relaxing. Shortly after arriving at the room, Scott surprised me with a MASSAGE. Not from him. A professional. She came up to the room with all of her…
Paleo Egg Roll In a Bowl
When I was younger, my friend Jennifer’s parents would regularly order us Chinese food. I was obsessed with egg rolls. Sometimes I would just eat an egg roll (or a few!) for dinner. Jennifer and I had this really weird way of eating them in which we completely disassembled them. You ate the outside, then the inside. Always dipped in that weird orange duck sauce. At this point in my life, it’s been a solid four years since I’ve had Chinese food. So I have to settle for making my own Paleo Egg Roll in a Bowl, which I find tastes better anyway. I got the idea for this Paleo Egg Roll recipe from a restaurant recently. They had an unstuffed egg roll option with rice and shrimp – I thought it was a great idea. You can add any protein you like, I used chicken. Paleo Egg Roll In…
Paleo Italian Turkey Meatballs
There’s an Italian restaurant in downtown Silver Spring that I love called Olazzo. I regularly go there after work to get a glass of wine and hit up some of their happy hour specials. One is meatball sliders. I obviously don’t eat bread so for me it’s just meatballs. It’s actually one of the only places I’ve ever had meatballs and they are SO GOOD. Unfortunately, whenever I’ve tried to make meatballs at home, they never come out as well. Until now. I’ve literally never cooked with ground turkey before but it may be my new go-to. The texture is unbelievable. While my ground beef meatballs were tough, thick and dry – these are soft and moist (literally the worst word ever but it’s fitting here). The flavor is awesome too. I don’t mean to go all Chris Traeger on you, but I thought the turkey tasted just as good…
Paleo Fried Oysters
I love oysters. They’re extremely nutrient rich, high in zinc, they taste amazing and they remind me of summer. I impulse bought a tin of shucked local oysters from Whole Foods the other day, and since I haven’t had fried oysters in a solid five years, decided to make some. – Paleo Fried Oysters I love oysters. Bacon Mayonnaise – BACONNAISE
At the Super Bowl this past Sunday, something I truly don’t care about unless the Redskins are playing, we had some friends over. My friend Molly brought thick cut bacon from Whole Foods to crumble over some organic fries. She baked it in the oven and left me with a bunch of beautiful, beautiful bacon fat. I know some people are going to think I’m crazy for recommending bacon fat mayo, but hear me out. Bacon actually isn’t highest in saturated fat (which is not bad for you, by the way) but in monounsaturated fat – like olive oil. Now, take a look at the ingredients in Hellman’s Mayo: SOYBEAN OIL, WATER, WHOLE EGGS AND EGG YOLKS, VINEGAR, SALT, SUGAR, LEMON JUICE, CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (USED TO PROTECT QUALITY), NATURAL FLAVORS. GLUTEN-FREE. The very first ingredient is soybean oil, which is not only extremely unhealthy but from soy has been genetically…
Paleo Maryland Crab Soup
I grew up in Maryland, the suburbs of DC, in a city called Silver Spring. As far as I’m concerned, Maryland is the best state EVER. Which is why in eighth grade I wrote a book report entitled “Maryland: We’ve Got Much More Than Crabs.” We’re next to DC (where I technically live now), we’ve got mountains, we’ve got ocean, we’ve got the entire freaking Chesapeake Bay. Which is where the best crabs come from – Maryland crabs. Maryland crab meat is very sweet and I like the texture over other types of crab. I have been able to peel a crab since I was a kid and in the summer, crab feasts are an all day even in these here parts. One of my favorite activities when it’s crab season is to gather in a friend’s backyard, throw some newspaper over the tables, drink some dranks and pick some…
Webinar With Anthony Morrocco: How To Lengthen & Strengthen Hair
I am so, so honored, stoked and thankful that I was able to sit down with Anthony Morrocco, founder of Morrocco Method and pick his brain. Anthony is an expert and a huge fountain of knowledge when it comes to hair care. And the best part? All of his products are truly non-toxic (not to mention the fact that they’re also amazing). We’re not talking about the kind of shampoo that is labeled “all natural” but actually contains carcinogens. Or an organic conditioner that secretly contains hydrolyzed soy protein. I started using Morrocco Method products after my long hair started breaking off at the ends. I thought I was using a healthy, organic shampoo and conditioner but as it turns out, the products I was using contained harmful carcinogens. Using Morrocco Method products and methods stopped the breakage, healed my hair and actually encouraged growth. This is the only hair care line…
