8 Foods Everyone Should Eliminate

Vegetable Oils Vegetable oils like soy, corn, canola, cottonseed, etc are one of the unhealthiest foods in the American diet. Vegetable oils are the driving force behind obesity and all degenerative diseases, including heart disease. Vegetable oils are often from genetically modified seeds. These oils are extracted at high heats, bleached and highly refined, rendering them toxic. They are also extremely high in omega-6 fatty acid, which is extremely inflammatory. Inflammation is the basis of all disease. Soda Soda is completely useless. It is devoid of any nutrients but full of sugar. It literally causes diabetes and obesity. It’s full of sketchy ingredients including artificial flavoring and caramel coloring. I wasn’t even able to find the ingredients in a coke. Diet soda is no better. It contains aspartame, which is next. Aspartame and other sugar substitutes Aspartame is one of the most dangerous “foods” on the market. Side effects include…

Why Do People Hate Paleo?

There have been a ton of articles popping up that apparently “debunk paleo” or somehow prove it isn’t scientifically accurate. I won’t even link to them because I’m not going to drive traffic to these agenda fueled articles that are poorly researched and even more poorly written. That being said, I am occasionally hesitant to call myself paleo for a few reasons. The first is that I really don’t like labeling the way I eat and pigeonholing it, and more accurately I follow a Perfect Health Diet. But paleo is more about what you don’t eat than what you do. We don’t eat vegetable oils, toxic grains, gluten, processed food, genetically modified food, etc. As long as you are eating whole foods that are easy on your digestion and are good for you, what the hell is the problem? The foundation of paleo is simple: Eat unprocessed foods. Eat pastured meat, wild seafood,…

Paleo Thai Green Curry With Cod

A Thai place opened up in my ‘hood a few months ago and it was there that I discovered that green curry is the bomb. Thank god I figured out how to make this at home. Although it doesn’t look that green due to the amount of hot sauce I put in it. I can’t help myself. Paleo Thai Green Curry With Cod This easy paleo green fish curry tastes just like the ones from your favorite Thai restaurant! Simple Snack: Prosciutto Wrapped Avocado

In Ditch The Diet I provide one simple snack idea everyday. So how in the world was I in my kitchen the other day talking to myself, saying “I’m hungry. But not that hungry. I want a snack. I can’t think of anything.” And then I realized I had eight weeks worth of snack ideas in DTD. I literally opened my computer and referenced my own program for snack ideas. Duh! I had prosciutto, and I had avocado. What a genius combinations. Salty from the prosciutto and creamy from the avocado. Protein and healthy fats to keep you satiated. Simply wrap some good quality prosciutto around slices of avocado. Is this not the simplest snack idea ever??

Don’t Drink Water With Meals

I’ve seen Bob Harper’s “Skinny Rules” floating around the Internet a lot lately. Most of them are ridiculous and not at all based in fact or research, and drinking a large glass of water with each meal is the first one I take issue with (along with being, well, the very first rule). When we go out to eat, Scott drinks a ton of water. He also used to drink a shit ton of it throughout the day. Like a lot of us, including my former self, it is ingrained in his mind that drinking as much water as possible is healthy. Don’t get me wrong, drinking water is healthy. But drinking a lot? Drinking when you aren’t even thirsty? Forcing yourself to drink it? Not so much. The first problem with drinking a glass of water with your meals is that it washes away enzymes in the mouth. The…

Carrot Ginger Soup (GAPS & Paleo)

Scott and I recently went to a baseball game (Nats, baby!) and afterward we went to one of his favorite Italian restaurants. He ordered the soup special, carrot and ginger, which sounded really gross to me for some reason. I was surprised he even ordered it, though the waiter did say it was really good. But like usual, my curiosity got the best of me and I tried it. And it was good. Like, really good. I tried to eat the rest but he wouldn’t let me. I’m one of those annoying girlfriends that tries to eat all of her boyfriend’s food and constantly eats off his plate. Joey Tribiani would have dumped me for sure (hopefully you understand this Friends reference). So the other day I’m debating what to make for dinner and I realize I have like, a 10 lb bag of carrots I have no idea what…

Fancy Appetizer: Smoked Salmon Tater Rounds

Sometimes, I like to make fancy appetizers… for myself. I got the idea to makes these a couple of weeks ago, and then a few days ago I realized I had all of the necessary ingredients. So I made them, and proceeded to eat them all in one sitting, all by myself. I really love these ingredients. Potatoes, sour cream, and smoked salmon? So good! I just realized that I’ve literally made these three days in a row. They’re that good. Eat it all like me, or be normal and share with people. Smoked Salmon Tater Rounds Potatoes, sour cream, and smoked salmon? These Smoked Salmon Tater Rounds are the perfect appetizer or brunch buffet item! Basil Marinated Salmon

*THERE IS A TYPO IN THIS PICTURE. IT’S SUPPOSED TO SAY “BASIL MARINATED SALMON WITH BASIL SALAD DRESSING.” I’M LEAVING IT AS IT BECAUSE I THINK IT’S FUNNY. Yesterday I posted a recipe for basil dressing and marinade. Today I’ll show you how I like to use it. The dressing doubles as a marinade and is perfect for fish, chicken and shrimp (it’s also good drizzle over steak). I placed a piece of salmon in tin foil, poured on some basil dressing and marinated it for about an hour. I then placed it in the oven for about 12 minutes on 400. It was awesome. I also served it with salad (with basil dressing). And a half of an avocado…drizzles with basil dressing. I could bathe in basil. Which is good because basil has been shown to: have anti bacterial properties be high in vitamin K reduce inflammation soothe the…
