Make this daily collagen smoothie with berries, kale and chia seeds part of your beauty routine! A healthy, delicious and energizing way to start your morning. Loaded with nutrients that are great for your gut, skin, hair, joints and bones!
I start my day with this collagen smoothie (or a similar version of it) every day. It is not only delicious and easy to make but also loaded with so many nutrients for everything from our skin to our guts. I can feel and see a noticeable difference when I’m not drinking this daily.
Can I replace breakfast with this collagen smoothie?
You could. I personally like this collagen smoothie with eggs and/or sausage on the side. I know a lot of people do a smoothie for breakfast and that’s it, but I need more food than that. I like to sit down with my family and have this with an actual breakfast. If that doesn’t work for you or you only need the smoothie to feel satiated – that’s great! Do what works for you.
Let’s talk about the beauty benefits of this collagen smoothie.
What is collagen?
Collagen is the main ingredients and it is the most abundant protein in the body.
Our bodies do produce collagen, but by the age of 25, we produce less and less. This is why we see signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, sallow skin and less hair growth as we age.
Furthermore, our bodies need more collagen when pregnant to support our growing, stretching skin. If you’re over 25, chances are you can benefit from collagen supplementation!
Collagen supports the matrix of the skin.
Because our skin is made up of collagen when we lack this critical nutrient we see more signs of skin degradation like stretch marks, scarring, wrinkles, and cellulite.
Collagen helps the cells of the skin adhere to one another and promotes skin elasticity.
Collagen promotes hair and nail growth.
Numerous proteins makes up the hair and nails and collagen is one of them. When our bodies lack collagen, we have less hair and nail growth. The hair and nail growth we do have is compromised due to low collagen, which is why we see dry, brittle hair and nails.
How much collagen should I take daily?
When supplementing with collagen on a daily basis, you will notice results over time. We are working from the inside out so results will not be overnight. It’s best to take collagen daily and wait at least a month. I personally aim for at least 15g a day, but you could require more or less depending on your age, size, diet, etc.
Which collagen protein is best?
For years I made collagen smoothies mixed with a ton of different veggies or various green powders. Then it dawned on me to make my own! I searched for the highest quality grass-fed collagen and sourced six organic veggies to pair it with broccoli, kale, spirulina, wheatgrass, spinach, and turmeric.
The result is high-quality protein mixed with anti-oxidant rich veggies. This supports the body from the inside out.
The Ancestral Nutrition Collagen Protein + Super Greens is great for stretch marks, gut health, wrinkle prevention/reduction, hair growth, stronger bones, joints, cartilage and so much more.
This is such a great product – whether you’re pregnant or not. It also tastes amazing.
Naturally sweetened!
This powder is sweetened naturally with stevia meaning you have to add zero additional sugar to your collagen smoothie! Stevia is a sweet leaf and zero-calorie sweetener. It is not a sugar alcohol (which is popular for keto folks) and it is not a synthetic sweetener. But it won’t spike your blood sugar like regular sweeteners.
Tips for making this collagen smoothie at home:
- To keep the sugar content low, I like using blueberries.
- You could use ground flax seeds instead of chia seeds. Grind them in a coffee grinder before adding them to the blender or buy them pre-ground.
- You could add nut milk instead of water if you prefer an extra creamy texture but I find it is perfect as is.
