Asian Stir Fry Veggies (Paleo, Low-Carb)

You guys. Let’s talk about the importance of veggies. They really should be at every meal, taking up about half of your plate. I’ve found that people have this idea that paleo is a meat-heavy, super low-carb, super high-fat diet that is very meat-centric, and that’s just not the case. I obviously recommend eating ancestally, and that means eating a variety of plant and animal foods that our great, great, great grandmothers would recognize. Wild seafood, pastured eggs, organic/grass-fed meats right along with a plethora of organic, preferably local and in-season veggies. It’s not hard. We really do over-complicate food. But it’s incredibly simple to eat well. Just eat real, whole, foods that your ancestors would actually recognize as food. Not Lean Pockets or 100 calorie snack packs. I’m talking meat, veggies, eggs, nuts, fruit, etc. REAL FOOD. Real food is the best food. And it’s the food that is…

Natural Cold and Flu Remedies For Babies

Everyone is freaking out about the flu this year. Don’t get me wrong – it’s bad. On a recent trip to Children’s when my son had a cold (he needed to be suctioned, not a big deal) they told us to cover him and leave as quickly as possible. There were so many kids and babies being admitted for the flu. Which is exactly why I’m going to share the natural cold and flu remedies for babies I always have on hand. When my son came home from the hospital last year, I bought a ton of natural remedies and medicine for him, just in case he needed them. I didn’t want to be up at 11pm with a sick baby, scrambling for cough syrup or something to boost his immune system. I’m a planner by nature. This year, I’ve upped my game. I am not playing. As always, consult…

Green Beans Side Dish with Garlic and Tomatoes

An easy green beans side dish with garlic and tomatoes – healthy, low carb, paleo and seriously delicious. The secret? Garlic ghee!  Green Beans – my favorite healthy side dish! Growing up, my grandmother always made this simple delicious green beans side dish. Granted, they were from a can, but they were SO good. She added butter and sautéed onions and they were a cheap, delicious side dish. A common meal would have been ground beef and spices or roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and a side of green beans. For not having any idea about health or nutrition, this was a pretty healthy meal. We’ve complicated healthy eating so much over the years. Vegan, paleo, low-carb, vegetarian, pescetarian, etc. But our grandmothers knew something we didn’t: real, whole food is best. They didn’t worry about labeling the way they ate. They just ate. My grandmother grew up with a…

Meal Prep Monday

Every Sunday I meal prep my ass off. If and when I don’t do this – we ended up eating out about 17 times. I love to have food already made in my fridge. It’s so convenient. It makes my life SO much easier. If there’s one piece of advice I can give anyone trying to eat healthier (aside from eating good, whole, real, organic food), it’s that you should be meal prepping every Sunday. And if you need ideas, just come here and check out my Meal Prep Monday posts. We’re all busy. A lot of us are parents. Most of us work. At the end of the day, it’s so nice to have good, healthy food already made to just pull out of the fridge and heat up. This week I made: paleo lasagna roasted chicken and veggies paleo taco lasagna four smoothies sautéed mushrooms I used these…

Gluten-Free Frosted Sugar Cookies

Try my recipe for these Frosted Gluten-Free Sugar Cookies, they’re dairy-free and sweetened with honey and taste absolutely delicious! These Gluten-free Sugar Cookies are the perfect addition to your Christmas Cookie Platter! When the holidays hit, I’m overcome with the compulsion to bake. And you guys – I’ll be honest, baking is NOT my strong suit. Although these festive gluten-free sugar cookies may change that. Because these suckers are REALLY good. As soon as that Friday after Thanksgiving hits, I’m obsessed with making frosted sugar cookies. They scream Christmas to me (although I used natural/non-toxic food coloring for these so they look a little more Easter-y). My husband said they actually kind of looked like the pies in the movie Hook, when Robin Williams and all the kids sit down to have a feast. You know, when he schools Rufio? No need for baking skills – this Gluten-free Sugar Cookies…

Meal Prep Monday

I woke up yesterday with an incredibly sore throat and feeling generally run down. I had a pretty relaxing Saturday night – my best friend Jennifer came over and we made horrible Christmas cookies that were about as hard as a collection of rocks and Scott, Jenn and I ordered sushi. It got worse throughout the day but I was determined to meal prep! The worst days of any illness are from 3-5 (I didn’t make this up, my son’s pediatrician told me) so I didn’t want to be even more run down, snotting everywhere while trying to make my family lunch. I was going to power through this meal prep! Here I am: living proof that if I can take an hour to meal prep while I feel like shit, you can do it too, friends! You’ve GOT this! This is definitely one of my lazier meal preps but…

Five Ways I’m Healing From Childhood Trauma + Anxiety + Panic Disorder

This isn’t something I love to talk about but I feel like it’s an important topic we should cover. It’s something a lot of people deal with and childhood trauma often goes hand in hand with anxiety, panic disorder and even depression. My anxiety got pretty severe starting around age 19 and now that I’m 29 and going to turn 30 in a few months, I’m determined to overcome it. I know that anxiety and panic attacks are something I can and will recover from – I already am. A few months ago I decided that once and for all I was going to tackle this head on; I was going to dive in face first and come out the other side stronger, healthier and healed. I want to talk about this because emotional well being is a huge part of health. Being healthy isn’t just exercise and eating well…

A Boho + Gluten-Free First Birthday Party

I LOVE me a good party. I love going to parties, I love throwing parties, I love planning parties. I had so much fun coming up with a concept for Ev’s birthday and landed on a boho + gluten-free first birthday party. I landed on this aestetic for his party in large part due to the fact that my house is already pretty boho so I wouldn’t have to decorate too much. As much as I love a good party, I also enjoy a party that doesn’t require a shit ton of effort. Let’s be honest, a first birthday party is more for than parents and friends. Everett wasn’t aware of the decorations or the food or the cake – he was just loving all the attention he got! So I wasn’t going to go all out with kiddie decorations, which I’m not a huge fan of anyway. I wanted…

Twenty Things You Don’t Know About Me

You guys are my people. You’ve read my blog, maybe you’ve even bought some of my products. You consoled me when I had a miscarriage. You congratulated me when I had my son and prayed with me because he arrived really, really early. Even if we don’t know each other in person, the internet is a weird and wonderful place where we get to know each other and become friends. I thought it would be fun to share a bit more about myself, so here are twenty things you don’t know about me. Or maybe more. I honestly didn’t count. HERE WE GO! I will be 30 in a few months! I met my husband when I was 23, we’ve been together for over 6 years. He is 8 years older than me and the best person in the world. Like seriously, I love that man so much. We had the…
