Margaritas are my favorite cocktail of all time. To be fair, they’re actually the only cocktail I ever drink.
There’s just something so refreshing and summery about a margarita. Even better if it’s a healthy margarita like this watermelon kombucha one, which screams summer to me.
Tequila is my favorite liquor option for healthy cocktails because:
- It contains less congeners than other alcohols; congeners are substances like acetone and tannins that worsen hangovers.
- Tequila is naturally gluten-free (which this celiac mama loves)
- It does not spike blood sugar like other alcohols.
- A good quality silver tequila does not contain additives that many other alcohols contain, like corn syrup and caramel color.
- It tastes so great when paired with soda water and a little fresh juice (try tequila, soda water and a splash of watermelon juice if you don’t have kombucha!).
Overall, tequila is just one of the healthiest alcohol options if you choose to imbibe. Plus it’s fun and tastes really good.
Health Benefits of Kombucha:
- Teeming with enzymes and bacterial acids, kombucha is believed to aid in natural detoxification.
- The combination of organic acids, enzymes, and probiotics in kombucha may promote healthy digestion and soothe an upset stomach.
- The healthy gut bacteria gained by drinking kombucha may help stimulate the immune system.
- In addition to small amounts of caffeine, kombucha contains energizing B vitamins and iron.
Tips for making healthy margaritas:
- Just a couple of seconds rolling your limes on the counter will tenderize them and make them way easier to juice, especially if they are a bit hard.
- Your healthy margaritas can only be as good as the worst of your ingredients, so cheap lime concentrate and crappy tequila are a no-no.
- When it comes to choosing which type of tequila to use, I’d say go for a silver/Blanco.

Watermelon Kombucha Margaritas
A healthy twist on a classic margarita using kombucha!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup blanco tequila (I use Tres Generaciones, it’s organic)
- 1 cup GT’s watermelon kombucha
- 1/2 lime
- sea salt for the rim (optional)
- ice
Instructions
- Add ice to a cocktail mixer.
- Shake.
- Set out two margarita classes.
- Add ice and half a cup of kombucha in each. To have an even lower carb option, use 1/4 cup kombucha and 1/4 cup seltzer.
- Pour the tequila and lime mix overtop.
- Garnish with a lime.
Notes
- Just a couple of seconds rolling your limes on the counter will tenderize them and make them way easier to juice, especially if they are a bit hard.
- Your healthy margaritas can only be as good as the worst of your ingredients, so cheap lime concentrate and crappy tequila are a no-no.
