I really love traveling. Even if it’s just to the beach three hours away. There’s something about hopping in the car with a bunch of snacks, rolling down the windows and blasting music. It’s the best thing ever and I honestly thing it’s half the fun of traveling.
I even like going to the airport. I love picking up food magazines and flying and ordering a glass of wine on the plane and looking out the window. It’s the best.
What’s not the best: airport and gas station food. Fast food.
I literally always bring snacks when we’re traveling, even if it’s just an hour road trip. I’d rather have snacks on hand than needing to pull over for a drink or because I’m starving. Not to mention the fact that it’s way cheaper to pack your own snacks than buy them. Here are some of my faves.
Smoked oysters not only taste amazing, they’re full of protein and are literally a super food because of their nutrient profile.
Epic bars! Aka the healthiest protein bar ever made.
Chips are my favorite ever. I try (and fail) not to overdo them. I always go for a healthier chip like these, which are cooked in avocado oil.
You can’t go wrong with an organic nut sampler!
Need a sweet treat? Try some cacao bliss!
Kale chips are a healthy snack and even though I hate kale, I actually really like kale chips. You can also make them at home!
Dark chocolate is always a great option.
Spicy grass-fed beef sticks! The best!
Simple Squares are a healthy sweet treat.
Almond thins! Like wheat thins, but won’t spike your blood sugar, cause inflammation or give you disease.
Other ideas:
- turkey, bacon and/or ham with lettuce, tomato, avocado and onion wrapped in THESE paleo wraps
- salmon salad (like tuna salad, but with salmon)
- hard boiled eggs
- lunch meat (organic)
- prosciutto wrapped avocado
- a smoothie to go
- a banana with almond butter
- smoked salmon wrapped in seaweed
And the ultimate in snacking is Snack Nation – who recently sent me one of their snack boxes. I have to say, it was so fun! It included several heathy snacks ( and some less healthy ones too) and I loved getting to try the various products. Some were paleo, some weren’t – all were fun to try! My favorite was the seaweed snacks!
