My Long and Difficult Journey To Health

I think a lot of people assume that as a health coach, my eating habits are perfect and always have been. The truth is, there is no such thing as perfection when it comes to eating. My journey to healthy eating is a long, sordid affair of trial and error. A lot of trial and error. Growing up, we didn’t have a lot of money. I was raised mostly by my grandmother, who had to buy groceries (and just about everything else) for three kids on a very small amount of money each month. She did the best she could and I’m forever grateful. School lunches consisted of white bread with mayonnaise and cheap ham with hard, gelatinous chunks and a back of chips. It was such a treat to have bacon and eggs for breakfast, but more often than not it was cereal or cinnamon rolls from a can.…

The Benefits of Bone Broth + An Easy Bone Broth Recipe

Make your own bone broth with my easy-to-follow bone broth recipe, and learn about all the health benefits you get from drinking it! Also included: tips and answers to the most common bone broth questions. You know that Old Wives tale that when you’re sick you should drink chicken soup? Yeah. That’s true. Bone broth thickens quite a bit when chilled…

An Unbiased Review of Advocare

Way back when I wrote my review of Herbalife, I had no idea it would garner the attention that it did. After Herbalife, I reviewed Isagenix because I received so many emails asking me about the quality of the products. Today, after receiving yet another review request for Advocare, here it is. First of all, I do not advocate meal replacement shakes in general. The basis of my nutrition coaching is not about shortcuts. It’s not about drinks that help you become “trim,” and it’s not about sketchy protein bars. Unfortunately, Advocare doesn’t fit the bill. The Vegetarian Meal Replacement Shake ingredient list: Pea protein, whole grain brown rice protein, potato protein, soy protein isolate, L-glutamine, L-lysine, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, fructose, natural flavors, cocoa powder (processed with alkali), dicalcium phosphate, potassium citrate, potassium chloride, magnesium oxide, choline bitartrate, ascorbic acid, inositol, d-alpha tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), d-biotin, zinc oxide, niacinamide,…

Which is Healthier: Butter or Olive Oil?

Have you ever stopped and wondered whether olive oil is healthier than butter and which fat is better for cooking? There is so much wrong information out there when it comes to good and bad fats! Let me break it down for you:  Butter vs. Olive Oil  – which fat is healthier? Recently there was a debate on Homemade Mommy’s Facebook page over olive oil being healthier than butter. This is something I see a lot. People eschewing butter because they are still afraid of saturated fats and have been led to believe that vegetable oils are the healthier option. Don’t get me wrong, olive oil is great. I eat it on my salads just about every day. It is rich in antioxidants and I love the taste. But is it healthier than butter? Should we eat olive oil instead of butter? Should we cook with it? Nutrient Density of Olive…
