Fried Calamari (Gluten-Free, Paleo, Healthy)

Dani
It’s super easy to make DELICIOUS crispy fried calamari that’s gluten-free, paleo, healthy and just as good (if not better) than any restaurant version. Lots of protein in the calamari and good fat from the coconut oil. Also – it’s really cheap to make this restaurant-style appetizer at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup arrowroot flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 lb calamari cut into rings
  • 1/2 to 1 cup refined coconut oil

Instructions

  • Combine the arrowroot, garlic, and paprika in a bowl.
  • After the calamari is cut into rings, dredge each piece in the flour mixture.
  • Heat the coconut oil over medium-high heat.
  • In a large pan, after it's definitely hot, add each piece of calamari.
  • Fry until golden brown on both sides.

Notes

  • Make sure your coconut oil is really hot before adding the calamari.
  • Use a big pan - bigger than the one shown in the pics. It took me FOREVER to cook all the calamari in this little guy.
